A Guide For Refreshing Your Wardrobe For Fall

By Jenne Slaw

I know what you are thinking, “It’s time for fall fashion already?” Well, considering how quickly this year has flown by already, the chillier months will be upon us before you know it. Something I tend to look forward to is the transitional period between seasons. It’s the perfect opportunity for me to start switching up my wardrobe and begin plotting for the cooler months- which means I can justify new purchases. Adding new shoes and outerwear pieces to my wardrobe are irresistible. They make transitioning from season to season so much easier. Honestly, nothing else you pair them with has to change, but the whole ensemble looks brand new. Think of it as wearing the fall weather version for your favorite summer outfits.

If tube tops are your summer staple, try a borg jacket.

A borg or Sherpa jacket is an easy way to make your favorite tube top work for the cooler months. They are available in a variety of colors and styles. Whether you prefer a simple tube top and skinny jeans combo or to pair it with a pair of flowy pants, adding a borg jacket on top helps to cover you up without taking away from your outfit. Plus, the texture adds an interesting and unexpected twist. A red hue would be a fun, trendy choice for the fall. A Sherpa cardigan works too!

If you wear slides all summer, try a pair of loafers.

I love wearing slides during the summer. They are so easy to throw on and head out the door and are so comfortable to wear all day. But throwing on socks with your slides when it’s colder outside isn’t your only option. A pair of loafers or backless mules is just as comfy, has more coverage and looks a bit more polished. They can be worn with anything from sweats to slacks and even shorts when it’s still warm outside. Try a velvet pair to take your look up a notch or a fur-lined pair for something extra coy.

If you like co-ords and sets, try a plaid blazer.

If you loved the co-ord outfit trend for the summer, whether it was a crop top and matching skirt or a wide-leg pant combo, try adding a plaid blazer to your wardrobe. It will give off the same polished vibe as a coordinating set. While it’s still warm out you can pair it with denim cut-offs or cycling shorts. Then dress it up with your favorite jeans and heels or down with joggers and sneakers once the fall weather kicks in. Plaid patterns like this one from Zara are perfect from the upcoming season.

If you wear nude heels with everything, try printed booties.

Nude open-toed heels are easily a staple for any summer wardrobe. But for the cooler months, a printed pair of booties will be much more appropriate (and warmer). There are so many different prints out there, but my favorite is a snake printed pattern in a neutral tone. They can easily serve as a replacement for your nude heels in almost any outfit, plus they’re more interesting and fun to look at. I love pairing booties with joggers and a bodysuit for a simple look or skinny jeans and an oversized sweater or jacket. Public Desire has tons of affordable options.

Cooler weather doesn’t have to mean buying all new clothes! (Though I wish it did.) Be mindful of which pieces you love and wear the most and find a way to rock them in the cooler months too. Swapping out jeans for shorts or throwing a cardigan or jacket on top a sleeveless top will make all the difference.
